Mix My Ride was born from a collaboration between SUPSI and USI, with the cooperation of (our) city of Lugano and Winterthur, and with funding from the Swiss Federal Office of Energy (SFOE). Through a smartphone application, available for both iPhone and Android, MixMyRide allows you to plan multimodal journeys within our region by combining walking, public transport, cycling, and lifts offered by other citizens (the well-known carpooling). It creates an innovative “public-private-people partnership” for the co-production of a new mobility service, offering multimodal, flexible, and time-efficient mobility options.
MixMyRide aims to overcome traditional competition between transport modes, such as public and private transport, by imagining a fruitful collaboration between them instead: an opportunity to extend public transport networks and improve performance and effectiveness, at the expense of solo car use. Currently, the service is being tested around the cities of Lugano and Winterthur, but the premises look very promising, so let’s get on board!
