Dear parents,
as a parent and a keen observer of digital developments, I would like to share a reflection with you that might stir some controversy, but which I believe is important to address.
I am not looking for immediate approval, but rather an incentive for a constructive discussion about our children's future.
When it comes time to give our kids their allowance, why not consider using digital payment tools?
Debit cards, PayPal, modern banking apps, or dedicated cards for children could be valid options to introduce them to this ever-expanding reality.
By encouraging them to use these payment methods, we will help them understand and correctly manage electronic money, which is and will remain a part of everyone's life. The perception of the value of money changes between cash and electronic currency, and it is crucial that our children learn to navigate both worlds.
We live in a country where the use of cash, for better or worse, is becoming almost obsolete, and I realize that, in Ticino, we are still at the beginning of this journey.
However, our children will grow up in an increasingly digitized world, and the sooner they learn to manage electronic money, the better it will be for them.
Regardless of our personal opinions on cash, we must recognize that the transition to digital is an inevitable process.
Preparing our children for this reality also means teaching them to manage money in all its forms, including digital ones.
